While you may think of an audio guest book as a physical phone that would replace a physical guest book at a wedding, the term "audio guest book" more appropriately refers to the finished product—a compilation of audio recordings made by wedding guests that you and your new spouse can cherish forever.
"This is primarily done by friends and family recording their voice using a vintage, retro or specialty phone at the wedding," El Ghatit shares. But audio guest books are not limited to specialty phones, with some vendors also providing the option for guests to call a specialty phone number on their personal devices.
After the wedding, the newlyweds then receive the compilation as a keepsake. This keepsake can be your preference of digital (recordings that are sent you to after your wedding and can be downloaded or streamed) or physical (like a usb drive)

Once you've secured a phone guest book for your big day, the process is straightforward. If you are using a physical phone, for the best audio quality, set up your device in a spot that's away from the noise yet visible enough so it won't be overlooked by guests.
For your setup, we love to highlight the importance of signage and communication. Even though the instructions can be simple, you need to tell people what to expect. To do so, place a wedding guest book sign or two around the telephone and have your DJ or band make an announcement reminding your guests to leave a message at some point throughout the night.
What should guests expect? Typically, they can expect to walk up to the phone, pick up the receiver and then leave their message. Messages are saved and stored in the phone automatically once they hang up until they are transferred to a computer by us and then turned into your keepsake via digital download or physical usb drive.

When you receive your audio guestbook phone, make sure to test everything out to ensure your recorded voicemail plays, meaning everything is working!
Find a setup location that is highly trafficked (on a table by the bar, at the welcome/gift table, etc).
Avoid placing the phone near any speakers or in the direct line of your DJ/Band to avoid heavy background noise/music.
Make sure to print out your guest audiobook instructions from our Sign Shop to help guests know what to do!
With the battery-powered option, you can easily move the phone from one location to the next, meaning you can have it setup for cocktail hour, then move it to your ballroom for reception to ensure you get the most visibility and use.
Before unplugging the phone, make sure to push the lighted power button underneath for 2 seconds and wait for all lights to turn off. This ensures a proper shutdown to keep your messages safe!
